William F. "Bill" Newell, Jr., 75, of Utica, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, with his family by his side. He was born November 24, 1936, in Utica, the son of the late William F., Sr. and Furn Thompson Newell and was educated in Utica schools. Bill was a US Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. On December 3, 1958, in Utica, he married Lorraine E. Payne. Bill was a professional tree climber for the City of Utica Parks Department, retiring in 1973. He later owned Bill Newell Carpet Service, fully retiring in 1988. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; two daughters, Furn Lorento and Norman Picente of Utica and Karen and Paul Sprague of New York Mills; three sons, William E. Newell and Crystal Wall of Clinton, Michael J. and Michelle Newell of Utica and William F. Newell, III and Cindy Stockbridge of Vernon; two sisters, Betty and Ronald Biamonte of Marcy and Janet Gilberti of Utica; a brother, Richard Newell of Utica; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Robert Gilberti. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11:30 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica. Private interment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Kirkland. There are no calling hours. Arrangementa are with the Bentz & Amodio Funeral Service, Inc., Utica/New Hartford.
