Mr. William Sally, Sr., a long time local dairy and produce farmer, entered into eternal life on Sunday, July 24, 2011, at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Utica, the son of the late Sam, Sr., and Sadie El Hage Sally. He attended local schools and Waterville High School. On October 15, 1949, Bill married the former Leona Kassouf, a blessed and devoted union of 62 years. Bill served his country in World War II as an Army rifleman and was a recipient of the Army Victory Medal. For over 50 years, Bill worked as a produce and dairy farmer in a second generation business started by his late father, a Lebanese immigrant, known as the Sally Farm, located in Waterville, NY. Bill and his two brothers, Sam, Jr., and Louis Sally, were respected businessmen within the community. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Bill loved to reminisce with his family and friends and was a great story teller who loved to laugh. He truly had a great sense of humor and, as a lover of good food to eat, he enjoyed trying new restaurants to dine in. Bill was a loyal Yankee and Syracuse Orange fan and also loved to play golf. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in sports at all levels and was always proud of their achievements and accomplishments. His family is very grateful to him for instilling in them a true sense of values and a sense of pride in their Lebanese culture and heritage. He is survived by his wife, Leona; his son and daughter-in-law, William and Sabine Sally, Jr., Clifton Park, NY; his three daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and M.W. (Skip) Swiatek, Downingtown, PA, Deborah and Gary Schneider, Oneonta, NY, and Georgianne and Robert Martz, Clifton Park, NY; his adored grandchildren, Lisa, Amy and Victoria Swiatek, Mark and Allison Jackson, and Tyler Sally; several nieces and nephews; and three sisters-in-law, Louise Sally, Cassville, Anne Sally, Waterville, and Virginia Kassouf, Latham, NY. He was predeceased by two brothers, Sam, Jr., and Louis Sally, and a sister, Julia Littlejohn. Bill's funeral with full military honors will be held on Friday, July 29, 2011, at 9 a.m. from the Bentz & Amodio Funeral Service, Inc., 470 French Road, Utica/New Hartford, and at 10 a.m. from St. Louis Gonzaga Church, 520 Rutger Street, Utica, NY, where his mass will be celebrated by Chorbishop John D. Faris. Burial will be private. Calling hours for family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2011, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
