Yolanda Pedone, 91, of North Utica, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, with her loving family by her side. She was born February 17, 1925, in Utica, the daughter of the late Sebastiano and Maria Salamida Gigante and was a graduate of Proctor High School. On May 29, 1948, at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Utica, she married Andrew J. Pedone, a loving union of 68 years. Prior to becoming a full time homemaker, a job she truly loved, she was employed by Griffiss Air Force Base as a civilian employee. She was a devout Catholic and was a parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Mrs. Pedone was also a member of the Adoration Society of St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church, taught religious instruction at St. Mark's Church and was a member of the YWCA swim group. Yolanda was devoted to her family, was an excellent cook who never let you leave her home hungry and lived by these words, "if you were a friend, you were family". She is survived by her husband, Andy; four children, (son) Ken and Diane Pedone of Whitesboro, (son) Andy and Michele Pedone of Tampa, FL, (daughter) Mary and Steve Cole of Rochester and (son) Joseph and Melissa Pedone of Schuyler; eight grandchildren, Christopher and JoAnne Pedone, Jessica and Rob Willson, Andrew "AJ" Pedone, Matthew and Danielle Cole and Lexi, Joe, Nick and Katie Pedone; three great-grandchildren, Julia, Ryan and Jane Pedone; her sister, Filomena Rena of Lee Center; her sister-in-law, Angie Pedone Longo of Utica; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Augustine J. "AJ" Pedone; and her four brothers and two sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 am at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish, Utica. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 4-7 pm at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Homes, Court at York Streets, Utica. Arrangements are with the Bentz Funeral Service, Inc., New Hartford.
