Arthur Roberts Obituary

Arthur J. Roberts, 89, of Waterville, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at the Harding Nursing Home. He was born January 28, 1918, in Utica, the son of the late William T. and Dorothea Angermier Roberts and was a graduate of Waterville Central School. Mr. Roberts was a Staff Sergeant with the US Army-Air Force during WW II. On June 8, 1946, in Sauquoit, he married Joyce Perkins. Mr. Roberts was a self employed dairy farmer and was later employed with SUNY Morrisville. He was a member of the former First Presbyterian Church of Waterville, the Waterville Oddfellows and the Kelley-Phillips American Legion Post #569, Oriskany Falls. Mr. Roberts enjoyed fishing, tinkering around his workshop in his home and watching his grandchildren play sports. He is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Joyce; two daughters and a son-in-law, Dorothy Nelson of Utica and Paula and Tom Nankivell of Wilkes-Barre, PA; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Arthur J., II and Beverly Roberts of Waterville, William T. Roberts, II of Utica and Kenneth Roberts of Waterville; a brother, Patrick Roberts of Richfield Springs; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Robin Roberts; a son, James Roberts; three brothers, William, Aubrey and Edward Roberts; and three sisters, Catherine Murphy, Eleanor Langel and Dorothea Moore. The funeral will be Satuday at 12 noon at the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville, with Pastor Ed Townsend officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Waterville Cemetery. Calling hours are Saturday from 10-12, prior to the service. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of the Harding Nursing Home for all their wonderful and compassionate care.
