Birdye Wolfe Obituary

Birdye Jane Wolfe, of New Hartford, passed away on August 22, 2022 at the age of 89, with family by her side.

She was born on April 27, 1933 in Utica, NY to Jack and Janet Wineburgh. A lifelong resident of the Utica-New Hartford area, she graduated from Utica Free Academy and moved away but once to study teaching at the University of Buffalo, returning to marry her husband, Richard L. Wolfe (1932-2019). The couple remained devoted to each other for over 60 years.

Birdye is survived by her sister, Evy Damsky, her soul mate and constant companion, her confidante and most cherished friend throughout her life.

She is also survived by her four loving children, Sam, Sue, David and Jon; and two grandchildren, Jordan and Jamie. Birdye's greatest passion was reserved for her children and her grandchildren, for whom there was no sacrifice too large. Universally recognized for her amiable nature and quirky sense of humor, Birdye will be sorely missed by everyone whose life she touched.

Calling hours will take place from 4-5:30 pm with a period of sharing from family and friends from 5:30-6 pm on Wednesday, August 24 at the Mark C. Bentz Funeral Service, Inc., 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Abraham House, 417 N. Washington Street, Rome, NY 13440 (theabrahamhouse.org), which provided her with solace and comfort in her final days.
