Dr. Irving Schneider Obituary

Dr. Irving Schneider, a long-time resident of New Hartford, passed away on December 11, 2023, surrounded by his family in his home in Boca Raton, FL.

Dr. Schneider was born on March 8, 1928, in New York City. He earned his Bachelor of Science from City College of New York (CCNY) and received a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) from Long Island University College of Podiatry.

The son of immigrants, Dr. Schneider grew up in New York City, first on the Lower East Side. He moved with his mother, Yetta, and younger brothers Charles and Solomon, to the Bronx when he was 12 years old. As a young boy he sang in the temple choir for High Holidays, weddings and bar mitzvahs with the Cantor Richard Tucker, who later became a famous tenor with the Metropolitan Opera. He earned money for college working summers in the Catskills.

Dr. Schneider first came to Utica in 1957 when he stepped in for a podiatrist on a brief six-week assignment. He met the love of his life, Barbara Galinn, and they married in 1958 with the support of Barbara's parents, Edward and Clara Galinn. Dr. Schneider set up his own podiatry practice, and he and his wife created a home for the family in New Hartford, NY. He was an avid swimmer and swam daily at the Utica YMCA in winter and at Cedar Lake in the summer. He was also a lifetime member of Temple Beth El.

Dr. Schneider is survived by his daughters Tracy Schneider of Seattle, WA, and Jennifer Schneider of Bethesda, MD, and their husbands Van Schilperoort and Mark Oh, respectively, along with three grandchildren: Blythe Clara Schilperoort, Max Byoung-Il Oh and Mia Hee-Gyoung Oh.

The family thanks Bentz Funeral Homes and Temple Beth El's Cantor Kalman Socolof for conducting the funeral on December 14, 2023 in the Temple Beth El Cemetery in Whitesboro, NY. Contributions in Dr. Schneider's memory may be offered to Temple Beth El, 1607 Genesee Street, Utica, 13501.
