Edward D McCarthy Sr., of Utica, passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Utica to the late Dennis McCarthy and Doris Banker McCarthy. He was a graduate of UFA and proudly served in the United States Navy. On November 7, 1959, at St. Francis de Sales Church, Utica, he was married to Jean Casey. She passed away on January 26, 2008. For many years, Mr. McCarthy worked for the City of Utica’s Department of Public Works as a diesel mechanic and following his retirement continued to work as the caretaker for several cemeteries.
He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, spending his summers at Sylvan Beach and fishing on Oneida Lake.
He is survived by his four children and their spouses, Jill and Dan Reynolds of Utica, Colleen and Carl Ciecko of Utica, Sandra McCarthy of Utica and Edward McCarthy Jr. of Delmar; two sisters, Katherine Lupia of Rochester and Joanne Ritchie of Syracuse; grandchildren, Ryan Ciecko and his spouse Tania, Shane McCarthy, Meghan Reynolds and Molly McCarthy; great grandson, Theodore Ciecko; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his grandson, Matthew Ciecko; and his brother, Jack McCarthy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 10 am at Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, Lourdes Campus, Utica. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. There are no public calling hours.
