Gail W. Schmidt, age 87, of Chadwicks passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday March 16, 2024.
Gail was born January 18, 1937, in Utica, the daughter of Leon and Alice Kennedy Waterman. She was a graduate of New Hartford High School and attended Syracuse University to study Art. She did accounting work at General Electric before moving to Arizona in the early 1970s where she worked as a realtor for many years. While living out West she was an avid outdoors woman and spent the majority of her free time camping and trail riding. She returned to NY in 2000 to begin a new chapter of her life and became a skilled quilter and bridge player. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and church choir at First United Methodist Church of New Hartford. Gail enjoyed sewing, singing, reading, playing cards, horseback riding, traveling and most especially spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her beloved niece, Kathleen (Matt Griffo) MacCracken of Geneseo; nephew, Michael MacCracken of Utica; stepson, C. Edward (Robyn) Schmidt of New Hartford; grandchildren, Eddie Schmidt and Kaitlin Schmidt; stepdaughter, Carolyn Richardson & family of Fulton; and her best friend, Marie Duink of New Hartford. She was predeceased by her daughter, Lisa Gail Alger; husbands, Clayton “Don” DeMente and Carl Schmidt; and sister, Joan Parker.
The family would like to thank Katherine, Megan, Nadia and Desiree of Live Long at Home for their care and compassion.
Memorial services will be Saturday March 23rd at 12pm, at the First United Methodist Church of New Hartford, 105 Genesee Street. The family will receive friends and relatives beginning at 11am at the church. Interment will be at a later date at the convenience of the family at East Hill Cemetery.
