Jean McCarthy Obituary

Jean C. McCarthy, of Utica and Sylvan Beach, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2008 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Utica, the youngest of fourteen children of the late Bertram and Anna Prendergast Casey. She was a graduate of UFA and attended MVCC. On November 7, 1959, at St. Francis deSales Church, Utica, she married Edward D. McCarthy, Sr. For many years, Mrs. McCarthy was an executive secretary with Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Utica. After her retirement she worked in various offices throughout the Utica City School District. Mrs. McCarthy was proud to be a Notary Public and was an expert in shorthand. Jean loved to read, spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and enjoyed spending her summers in Sylvan Beach. She is survived by her husband of over 48 years, Ed; four children and their spouses, Jill and Dan Reynolds of Utica, Colleen and Carl Ciecko of Utica, Sandra McCarthy of Utica and Edward McCarthy, Jr. of Cohoes; a sister, Mary Williams of Rochester; three brothers and their spouses, Gerald and Jean Casey of Utica, Austin and Margaret Casey of Utica and James and Gladys Casey of Frankfort; four grandchildren, Ryan and Matt Ciecko, Shane McCarthy and Meghan Reynolds; her in-laws, Jack and Carol McCarthy of Utica, Katherine Lupia of Rochester and Joanne Ritchie of Syracuse; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by six brothers, Thomas, Harold, Arnold, Billy, Kenneth and Robert Casey; and three sisters, Florence Casey, Dorothy Walker and Mildred Walker. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 11 am at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, Utica. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. There are no public calling hours. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of the St. Elizabeth Medical Center, for all their wonderful care and compassion. Arrangements are with the Bentz & Amodio Funeral Service, Inc., 470 French Rd., Utica/New Hartford.
