Rene' (Abend) Cominsky

Rene’ Abend Cominsky, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully in her own home in Utica on Saturday, April 1, 2023 with her daughters by her side.

She was born on December 15, 1923, to Louis and Jean Breiterman Abend in Brooklyn, NY. On November 24, 1943, in Washington D.C. she married Maish Cominsky of Utica after a ten day whirlwind romance. They made their home in Utica where they enjoyed 48 years of wedded bliss until Maish’s death in 1991.

Rene’ is survived by her three children, Ellen Cominsky, Isabeth Cominsky and Gail (Robert) Evans; three grandsons, Joshua (Ann) Evans, Aaron (MaryCarol) Evans and Brett(Danielle)Evans; and four great grandchildren, MJ, Eli, Robert, and Talia Rene’ Evans.

Rene’ was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Maish; and siblings, Bernard, Mildred and Gary Abend; and numerous friends.

Rene’ was employed by the Bank of Utica, retiring as Assistant Treasurer in 1985.

Rene’ was active in the Council of Jewish Women, Hadassah, and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was on the board of the Jewish Community Center and was president of Congregation Zvi Jacob. She was also an avid mahjong and bridge player.

The funeral will take place on Tuesday, April 4 at 11 am at Congregation Zvi Jacob, 110 Memorial Parkway, Utica with Rabbi Howard Matasar officiating. Burial will take place at the House of Israel Cemetery, Whitesboro. There will be no shiva observed.
